Written by: Virginia Beach Injury Law

Williamsburg, VA (September 21, 2020) – An accident reported on Saturday afternoon left one Virginia Department of Transportation worker injured. At approximately 1:30 p.m., on September 19, the Virginia State Police responded to assist at the site of a collision on Interstate 64 West.

Reports show that Richard Hogue, a subcontractor for the Virginia Department of Transportation worker, was working along Interstate 64 West when he was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban near mile marker 236, between Williamsburg/Camp Peary exit and the exit for Lightfoot.

Hogue sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was rendered aid at the scene and transported to Riverside Doctors Hospital. He was subsequently flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for further treatment.

The driver of the Suburban, 30-year-old Keiron Pollard, was found to be under the influence of alcohol while driving. Pollard was arrested at the scene.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with Richard Hogue, his family, and everyone who has been affected by this collision.

Pedestrian Accidents in Virginia

Motor vehicle accidents claim the lives of nearly 75 pedestrians each year in the state of Virginia. This number accounts for 10% of all traffic-related fatalities. In addition to people losing their lives, hundreds more are left to deal with overwhelming pain and suffering from injuries. Pedestrian accidents are completely preventable, yet we continue to see the overwhelming impact they have on victims and their families.

In many cases, vulnerable pedestrians sustain brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and broken bones, all of which require extensive medical treatment. When victims sustain injuries in accidents, due to the negligence of others, it is imperative that they reach out to a pedestrian accident attorney in Virginia as soon as possible. Victims may be entitled to compensation to help alleviate the financial burdens they face moving forward after being harmed in an accident.

There are many cases where pedestrians are injured in accidents that are completely preventable. In fact, more than 80% of collisions in our state are a result of a negligent or reckless driver. Many accidents in our state are caused by drivers who are texting while operating their vehicles, engaging with others in the car, changing the radio, driving impaired, and acting negligently and recklessly.
