Virginia Beach, VA – Rear-End Wreck, Injuries on I-264 at Independence Blvd

Written by: Virginia Beach Injury Law

Virginia Beach, VA (May 12, 2022) – Police say part of westbound I-264 at the Independence Boulevard exit was closed after a multi-vehicle crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, May 12.

Virginia State Police, working in tandem with the Virginia Beach Police, were dispatched to the scene around 4:45 p.m. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered two drivers had crashed on the westbound side of Interstate 264 at mile marker 16.4, right before Exit 17A to Independence.

Officers reported that the incident was an apparent rear-end wreck, although specific details on the events causing the collision were not made immediately available. Paramedics treated victims for minor injuries at the scene, with one person taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital by ambulance as a precautionary measure.

None of the victims has been identified at this time, and the scope of the injuries they suffered is also unknown.

An investigation into the factors causing the wreck is underway. At this time, our hopes are for the injured victims’ full recoveries.

Virginia Rear-End Accident Injuries

According to recent data issued by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (VA DMV), close to a thousand people died on Virginia’s roads in 2021, a 15% rise in comparison to 2020. In addition to these deaths, records from the previous year show that around 160 people were injured daily in the Commonwealth due to traffic accidents.

Despite the fact that traffic crash rates have decreased overall in various locations around the country, including Virginia, it is evident that these accidents are still far too common. Though the majority of these accidents are avoidable, with driver error frequently to blame, victims nevertheless pay a high price.

Those who survive these catastrophic collisions may face painful medical treatment and ongoing physical difficulties, such as whiplash and muscular strains, as well as mental distress for weeks, months, and even longer. From spine fractures and traumatic brain injuries to severe scarring or loss of function, victims may endure the consequences of a major crash for years to come.

Thousands of people are left with devastating disabilities as a result of these accidents. Moreover, they may have to spend tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket while negotiating with insurance companies or dealing with uninsured drivers. However, if you or a loved one has been injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may have legal recourse. If you or a family member has been hurt due to the negligence of another driver, you should contact a Virginia Beach car accident attorney as soon as you can.
