Suffolk, VA – Two People Injured After Chain-Reaction Crash on I-664 at Merrimac Bridge

Written by: Virginia Beach Injury Law

Suffolk, VA (September 14, 2021) – Virginia State Police officers are investigating several vehicle crashes that caused Interstate 664 northbound at the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to shut down on Tuesday morning, September 14.

Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation said the major accident occurred as a result of two prior minor collisions in the northbound lanes. A chain reaction to slowing and stopped vehicles resulted in the two minor collisions. A total of three wrecks are being investigated and all happened around 6:00 a.m., VDOT said.

All lanes to the northbound bridge of I-664 were opened back up at 8:00 a.m. Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews provided emergency medical assessment and treatment. Paramedics transported an adult female and an adult male to a local medical center via ambulance. EMS treated them both for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into all three collisions is ongoing. Officers have not released further details about the events leading up to the wrecks or about the victims involved.

Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this accident. We hope for their full recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Suffolk

Annually, nearly 1,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sadly, another 65,000 people suffer serious injuries in these collisions. Victims also continue to suffer from long-term physical problems or emotional trauma long after their wreck. This is especially true if they sustain TBIs, fractures, spinal cord injuries, and other catastrophic injuries.

As a result of these serious accidents, victims face drastic limitations going forward. Although serious motor vehicle accidents can happen for a variety of reasons, the majority of accidents fall under one of three causes.

Even if you strive to protect yourself and others while on the road, you cannot guarantee that others will act responsibly. Unfortunately, tens of thousands of people are left with debilitating injuries after these accidents. Wrecks that are caused by the negligence of another driver can leave victims in devastating circumstances.

Oftentimes, these victims require medical treatment and ongoing therapy lasting for months or years. As a result, victims may pay tens of thousands of dollars out of their own pockets.

Thankfully, if you sustain injuries in an accident that’s occurred through no fault of your own, you may have legal recourse. You and your family can reach out to a car accident attorney in Suffolk. Contacting an attorney in the aftermath of your accident is essential. Plus, you may find that you are entitled to compensation, which can help you cover your financial burdens.
