The Norfolk Fire & Rescue Department and the Norfolk Police Department were among the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. According to emergency personnel on the scene, the incident occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 near the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel at about 6:50 p.m. Despite the fact that the cause of the incident is unknown, the NPD said that all lanes were blocked for around an hour following the initial collision.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash is still ongoing, according to the officers’ reports. The NPD is requesting that anybody who saw the accident or has information relevant to the investigation contact them as soon as possible.

Our hearts go out to those who have been hurt, and we wish them a speedy and complete recovery.

Auto Collisions Throughout the Virginia Commonwealth

According to Virginia Commonwealth traffic researchers and analysts, over a thousand people die each year as a result of motor vehicle accidents. As a result of these mishaps, an additional 65,000 people have received life-threatening injuries.

Those injured in a car accident may have long-term mental or physical suffering, but the degree of their injuries will decide whether or not this is the case. Worse still, victims who suffer more severe injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries (TBI), major fractures or broken bones, spinal cord injuries, or other catastrophic wounds, are more likely to need long-term medical attention. This is due to the fact that these types of catastrophic traumas may cause a victim to miss work for weeks or even months and worse still, leave a person permanently disabled.

Furthermore, one of these three factors causes the great majority of automotive collisions: speeding, driving while distracted, or driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Even if you take every care to keep yourself and others safe while driving, there is no assurance that other drivers will observe traffic laws or act responsibly behind the wheel.
