Norfolk, VA (November 3, 2021) – Rescue units with the Norfolk Fire Department say four people sustained injuries in an apartment complex fire early Monday morning, November 1.
The NFD rescued six people total early Monday morning after the blaze took over an apartment building in the 900 block of Greenway Court, located just two blocks away from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital West Ghent.
The Norfolk Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire but added that it doesn’t seem suspicious in nature.
EMS transported four people to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, all believed to be caused by smoke inhalation. Authorities say that 14 out of 15 apartment units were being occupied at the time of the incident.
The fire caused parts of the building to collapse and resulted in the roof caving in.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is ongoing, and further details have not been released.
