Chesapeake, VA – Woman Hospitalized After Two-Car Crash on S Military Hwy & Rte 17

Written by: Virginia Beach Injury Law

Chesapeake, VA (July 23, 2021) – A woman was transported to an area hospital after her SUV was struck by another SUV on Thursday morning, July 22, in Chesapeake.

Officers with the Chesapeake Police Department say that the wreck happened at South Military Highway and Route 17 around 9:30 a.m. In their initial statement, police said a man driving a gray Toyota SUV was heading westbound on Military Highway when he veered off the right side of the road and collide with a small embankment.

The impact caused his vehicle to go airborne and hit the woman’s tan Buick SUV, which was stopped at a red light on Route 17, or the George Washington Highway. News footage from the scene showed both vehicles flipped as a result of the accident. The woman sustained possible life-threatening injuries, per a statement released from Chesapeake EMS, and was taken to the hospital. The man suffered only minor injuries but was also transported.

Officials with the Chesapeake Police Crash Investigations Team are still investigating the cause of the wreck and have not released further details. It’s unclear if charges or citations are pending.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
